"If
you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if
your house is on fire, then you got a problem. Everything else is
inconvenience" Robert Fulghum
Today was an inconvenience. I had a doctor's appointment about 40
miles
away. Halfway there I got a blowout in my right front tire.
The
tire actually did not deflate; it threw a large piece of tread
off. It
bent some sheet metal behind the tire as it flew off. After that the
vehicle
shaking was horrendous and scary.
Luckily I left plenty early for the appointment and had time to change
the tire
and still get to the appointment on time. I could have cussed, yelled,
stomped
and cried. It wasn't a problem, it was an inconvenience. I quickly
solved it
and moved on.
Not every situation is as easily solved or as inconsequential as a flat
tire on
the freeway. However if we respond to the smaller inconveniences
in a
calm manner, we will condition ourselves to respond to actual problems
in a
more composed manner.
There are a lot of things in life that hold us back because we believe
they are
a problem. We don't make enough money. We lost our
job. Our
credit cards are maxed out and the phone will not keep ringing because
of
debt
collectors.
In the scheme of things all of these things may hurt, the may worry us,
but
they are not as much of a problem as they are an inconvenience to our
ongoing
efforts to live a quality life. If we handle the inconveniences well,
we can handle the problems better.
If
you take various quotes to heart and think about them, each one can
offer you
an insight into success and forward moving change in your life.
This is
especially true of this quote. If we evaluate what we call
problems, we may find that are really inconveniences that we can fairly
easily work through.
